Dar Es Salaam — SUN Biofuels Ltd, a London-based firm that has invested heavily in jatropha farming in the country, says it has spent some 280m/- in direct compensation to Kisarawe residents whose land it acquired for commercial farming.

Oil palm, like coconut and jatropha are both trees and assuming only 50 percent utilization of the four million hectares is used, at 5000 liters per hectare for oil palm the annual produce of this two million hectares would be 10 … The trees using only two million hectares and intercropped with coconut areas the country is capable of producing 11.5 billion liters a year, that is 75 percent more than its projected diesel requirements by year 2013 to 2014, he added.
